Dear City Commissioners,
I have lived in and contributed to the Bozeman community for nearly 40 years. We are
either at, or on the downward slide past, a tipping point for some semblance of
preservation of our local landscape. As our current commissioners, you have an
incredible opportunity to create a foothold for the future of our community by
strengthening and implementing the City's own plans and codes to preserve the
profoundly beautiful and vibrant landscape that drew, and continues to draw so many of
us here.
With that in mind, I am writing in support of the Bozeman Tree Coalition (BTC) UDC
comments of 11/30/25 in reference to strengthening Bozeman's existing General
[Design] Standards. B. Natural Environment (38.410.010) by adding the word "maximum"
so it will read, "...to the maximum extent possible".... As BTC noted, “to the extent
possible” creates a loophole, effectively requiring nothing to be preserved at all."
Please don't let Bozeman slip past this tipping point. Please be both daring and forward
focused and do what you can to protect Bozeman's natural landscape.
