Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I am a parent, a member of the Bozeman Symphonic Choir, and a leader with Bozeman
Tenants United. As someone who has rented in Bozeman for the past seven years, a
strong Right to Counsel program for tenants would alleviate some of the stress that I
experience as a tenant. I have been on the receiving end of eviction threats and unfair
housing practices. A strong Right to Counsel program would provide a safety net for me
and my daughter to stay housed. I love this community, and an eviction on my record would
likely mean having to leave everything I have built here for myself and my daughter. I want
to stay in the Valley, keep my daughter in her school, and continue to build a life that
means something here. Thank you for taking the steps necessary to pass a strong
ordinance and fund a strong program that would help keep tenants like myself in our
homes. I encourage you to vote yes on the program on Tuesday, December 2.
