HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2706 Intent to exceed mill levy for pumper truck: 7-18-88 . -.....--.....---~ ~ ~--.- . .. ~ ~ COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 2706 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, INDICATING THE CITY'S INTENT TO EX- CEED THE CURRENT STATUTORY MILL LEVY ON THE AP- PROVAL OF A MAJORITY OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE MUNICIPALITY AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION; SAID ADDI- TIONAL DOLLAR AMOUNT OF MONIES RAISED TO BE USED BY THE CITY OF BOZEMAN FOR PURCHASING ONE PUMPER TRUCK FOR USE BY THE FIRE DIVISION. WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman, Montana, has thoroughly reviewed the capital, salary and operations expenditures for the City's AII~Purpose General Fund in preparation of an operating budget for Fiscal Year 1988-89; and WHEREAS, the City has conducted a complete analysis of revenues over the past two fiscal years; and WH EREAS, the City staff has projected the total possible collectible reve- nue for Fiscal Year 1988-89; and WHEREAS, it appears that the expenditure level necessary to acquire certain major equipment items necessary to continue to maintain adequate fire protection services to the citizens of the City of Bozeman cannot be reached by existing revenue; and WHEREAS, Section 7-6-4431, M.C.A., authorizes a municipal governing body to exceed the current statutory mill levy established for the All-Purpose General Fund upon approval of a majority of the qualified electors voting in an election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana: Section 1 That the revenue derived from the special mill levy election as provided herein will be used to purchase a pumper truck for use by the Fire Division. Section 2 That the specific amount requested to purchase said fire truck is $140.000 to be financed over a period of two fiscal years; therefore, the amount necessary to be placed at issue before the qualified electorate of the City of Bozeman is approximately $70,000 per year. Section 3 That the above-stated amount necessary to purchase said pumper truck - __._.. .__.__u_ ~ - . ... o<c .' over a period of two fiscal years represents approximately 3.00 mills per year. Section 4 That the specific General Fund mill levy limitation to be exceeded is the one which is governed by Section 15-7-122, M.C.A., which revises Section 7-6-4452, M.C.A. Said mill levy for Fiscal Year 1988-89 is approximately 79.57 mills. Section 5 That said additional mill levy as stated herein shall be placed at issue before the qualified electorate of the City of Bozeman at the general election to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 1988; and the wording of the proposal shall be as follows: Authorizing the City of Bozeman to levy up to three (3.00) mills per year in addition to the regular levy now autho- o FOR rized by law for each of the next two fiscal years for the purpose of raising approximately $70,000 per year to pur- chase one pumper truck for the City's Fire Division.
