November 23, 2025 Dear City Commission, My beloved maternal grandparents were presidents of their respective fraternity and sorority, my best friend in college was a Theta president, and my dear nieces and nephew who are recent college grads are Greek members. So please don’t say that I don’t like or support Greek Life because I simply ask for Bozeman City zoning code to adequately and realistically address zoning for Greek chapter houses in residential neighborhoods including my own in RA close to the MSU campus. On November 17th the Community Development Board voted to recommend the following code language for a new Greek chapter house: The requirement for one continuous internal assembly space should accommodate 90% of their enrolled membership at the time of use approved by the City, but not less than 70 members. This code adjustment request by Kathy Powell was signed by over 70 Bozeman citizens across town. Interestingly, it was CDB member Egnatz who mentioned he was in a fraternity in college who made this motion that the CDB passed 5:1. I love it that a fraternity fellow can fully appreciate the realities of fraternity living (regular chapter meetings, events, and parties) and sensible zoning guidelines for the safety of Greek members, their guests, and their neighbors. I ask that you support this practical and meaningful code change for the benefit of all in the neighborhood. Please be careful. Don’t water it down, so that it becomes a mere token move that lets everyone down. It’s important to create zoning that best sets up fraternity and sorority chapter houses to succeed and live compatibly with all neighbors. Respectfully, Aimee Morel-Seytoux Bozeman resident
