INTRODUCTION
This design report provides the criteria used as a basis of design for the sewer line proposed to
service the Velocity Car Wash. This report is submitted in conjunction with the completed plans
and specifications to the City of Bozeman and is organized following the outline recommended in
DEQ-2, Chapter 10. Section 11.1, Engineering Reports.
The Velocity Carwash project site is located at 3100 West Main Street within the City of Bozeman,
Montana. The legal description for the lot is Gallatin County, Section 11, Township 02 South,
Range 05 East, Tract 2 AS DESIG ASSRS Plat being 150’ x 300’ less HWRY Buronepe
Annexation. The existing project site is a developed lot where the Montana Woolen Shop used to
be. See the vicinity map for location details.
The proposed water and sewer services will be owned and maintained by Velocity Carwash.
1 EXISTING WASTEWATER FACILITIES
There is an existing City of Bozeman 8-inch PVC sewer main located to the northeast of the
existing site per the Infrastructure viewer. There are two sewer manholes adjacent to the site that
are located on the west and east sides of the mall access road. The current design proposes tying
a new service into the 8-inch main between these two manholes. An existing sewer cleanout was
found during the site survey, but no additional information was found as to the existence and
location of the sewer service for the existing building. The existing service, if found, will be capped
at the main and abandoned per City of Bozeman standards.
2 EXISTING WATER FACILITIES
There is an existing City of Bozeman 8-inch D.I. water main located just north of the northern
property line per the Infrastructure viewer. The current design proposed tying a new water service
into the existing 8-inch main. There is also an existing fire hydrant (#980) located across the mall
access road that is approximately ~200-feet from the proposed building. No new fire hydrants are
proposed to be installed with this project.
3 PROPOSED SEWER IMPROVEMENTS
The Velocity Car Wash will be located on property zoned B-2 (Community business district) per
the City of Bozeman’s zoning map. This project involves the installation of an 8-inch sewer
service lateral that will tie into the existing 8-inch sewer main located to the northeast of the site.
The sewer service lateral will include one line to service the proposed carwash building and
restroom and another line that will service the recirculation tank. The sewer service laterals will
maintain a slope of 2% from the building to the existing main tie-in. The laterals will be designed
with cleanouts at any proposed bends and at the building entrance to provide maintenance and
flushing access.
Sewer facilities included in this project are designed with adequate capacity to handle flow of the
maximum peak hour flow rate for the car wash. Per the City of Bozeman Design Standards and
Specifications Section V and owner provided information, the building demands were estimated
to be 31.4 GPM for average daily flow, and 129.5 GPM for peak hour sewer demand.
Calculations are attached in the appendices.
4 PROPOSED WATER IMPROVEMENTS
This project involves the installation of a potable 4-inch D.I. water service lateral that will tie into
the existing 8-inch water main located north of the site. There is no fire service proposed for this
building.
Water facilities included in this project are designed with adequate capacity to handle flow of the
maximum peak hour flow rate for the car wash. Per the City of Bozeman Design Standards and
Specifications Section V and owner provided information, the building demands were estimated
to be 37 GPM for average daily flow, and 151.6 GPM for peak hour water demand. Calculations
are attached in the appendices.
For the purposes of landscape management – the site will incorporate landscape irrigation to
ensure the upkeep of its visual appeal. Outdoor design studios have calculated an average
irrigation water demand of 16 GPM. This irrigation system is vital for sustaining the landscaping’s
aesthetics and vitality, in line with the site’s water management goals.
