We need your help to shape Montanadisability law and policy There are many things Disability Rights Montana could advocate toimprove over the next year. Our Board wants your opinion about howwe should focus our efforts. READ IN APP DRM’s Jon Eichler sitting at a school desk this spring grinding up pencils in a pencil sharpener as a protest against the MT AttorneyGeneral’s lawsuit that sought to have Section 504 (the disabilitycommunity’s oldest civil rights law) found unconstitutional Federal law requires that Disability Rights Montana set priorities for what we advocacy about each year. Our Board of Directors wants to hear from you about what we should advocate to improve in Montana. OCT 20 Short priority survey We do not yet know how much federal funding we will have to do advocacy for this year. The federal fiscal year started at the beginning of this month, but there is still no plan from the federal government about how it will spend money this year. The president has proposed eliminating several or our programs and significantly cutting others. Congress has not suggested such cuts. Whatever is eventually adopted will have a major impact on the amount of advocacy we can engage in. While we wait to see what the federal government does with its budget for the current year, we want to continue gathering up-to-date information from our community to learn about what you think is most important here in Montanan. This will help our volunteer Board of Directors set priorities that meet the needs of Montana’s with disabilities. Our Board is made up of entirely of people with disabilities and their family members, and they bring a broad array of personal and professional experiences, to their leadership of Disability Rights Montana. They care deeply about what our community needs and would like to hear fr om you about what advocacy you need most. Short priority survey Thank you for your continued support and engagement, David p.s.
