Re: Rachel Phillips as Nominee for the Preservation Stewardship & Leadership Award
Dear Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board,
I am pleased to offer this letter of support for Rachel Phillips for Bozeman’s 2025 Preservation Stewardship & Leadership Award. She is a true steward of Bozeman’s history.
She understands it, continues to learn and teach it, and she gets it out there to the public. She is dedicated to serving her clients, which are families that come in to research their local
legacy, businesses that are curious about their buildings, and kids working on school assignments – among many others. She opens the doors to all, leading us down the
informed path of discovery.
Rachel regularly shares Bozeman’s history through her articles in Bozeman Magazine. She is
always helpful to researchers at the history museum – she invariably pulls out additional
sources that might be helpful. She contacts researchers later if she comes across items
related to their topics. She presents well and enthusiastically at events in town and the state. All of the above while managing the Gallatin History Museum’s Research Center smoothly.
We all feel that Rachel Phillips is ours - our Gallatin County ambassador, our go-to historian,
our resource maven. Her input is critical to our understanding of this rich place we live and
work in. Bozeman is fortunate to have Rachel Phillips right here with us. She deserves to be recognized for her expertise, professionalism, and dedication.
Sincerely,
Lesley M. Gilmore
