Q7: Statement of Merit - Why do you believe this nominee deserves a Historic Preservation Award?
As a retired cultural resource specialist for the National Park Service, my role was stewardship of National Park Service historic properties. So I understand historic preservation and
stewardship well. I say this because, after retiring, I turned my attention to learning about how to best advocate for our community's historic properties here in Bozeman. I found that
there was a lot going on and it was difficult to keep up. I also had to learn about the city's municipal code, relevant state laws/policies. It all seemed so daunting! Fortunately,
I found the Better Bozeman Coalition (BBC). More specifically, I was excited to find and be informed by one of BBC's leaders, Alison Sweeney. I know a cultural resource steward when
I see one and Alison is the real deal. Her writings provide factual information about upcoming projects that have the potential to affect historic buildings/districts/sites/structures/
landscapes. She notifies fellow preservation advocates of meetings, NCOD guidance, and UDC policies. She provides resources that other community advocates can use to effectively advocate
for historic preservation. She is well-versed in the intricacies of upcoming projects and decisions and does an excellent job communicating these to fellow preservation advocates. Her
communications are well-written, factual, and meaningful. I've watched her give countless public comment that is substantive and very well-expressed. She devotes her personal time to
this historic preservation stewardship role. As a former historic preservation professional, I recognize
her competence and trust her leadership in this regard. This woman has passion for historic preservation. She has energy, stamina (she's been doing this work for years!), and can keep
us all updated so that we may also be informed stewards. That is leadership and commitment. It is a relief to know that with Alison, Bozeman is in good hands. I strongly recommend Alison
Sweeney receive the 2025 Historic Preservation Award in the category of Preservation Stewardship and Leadership.

landscapes. She notifies fellow preservation advocates of meetings, NCOD guidance, and UDC policies. She is well-versed in the intricacies of upcoming projects and decisions and does
an excellent job communicating these to fellow preservation advocates. She provides pertinent resources that help community advocates be successful in their advocacy. Her communications

Please note that I've uploaded screenshots of Alison's excellent work on the Better Bozeman Coalition's website, to which she provides much of the content. As you can see by this supporting
documentation, she provides the community with all the tools they need to contribute toward the stewardship and preservation of Bozeman's historic properties.
