The nominee worked carefully to repurpose older existing materials from their site and design an artistic railing that blended not only to function but also towards the arts purpose of the center. Q8: If a Project: Briefly describe the type of work completed. Please include relevant history of the structure (year built, original purpose, etc.) The building was originally built in 1920 and designed by local architect Fred Wilson. The Emerson School was named after Ralph Waldo Emerson. This school was eventually closed in 1992 and eventually became what it is today. The project was to repair and replace the North entrance and stairs to the facility that had deteriorated over time. The staff of the Emerson worked closely with PRG to preserve existing parts of the staircases (old stone treads) and design their reuse and repurpose into the new project. They also worked with us to design a more appropriate artistic railing system that was more fitting for the current use of the building and still honor its historic roots. **(new railings to be installed week of October 6th) Q9: If an Individual or Organization : Provide a summary of contributions to local history and how they promote cultural heritage.
