I am writing to object to the City Commission’s plan to send a letter supporting TenantsUnited in the proposed sale of King Arthur Trailer Court and Mountain Meadows Estates.
Both properties are outside Bozeman’s city limits and therefore outside the City’sjurisdiction. Using public office, city staff, and taxpayer-funded resources to influence aprivate real estate transaction in the county is improper and beyond the City’s authority.
The City has no standing in this matter. The land in question is privately owned, and theproperty owner lives in Billings. Pressuring a private individual to sell to a specific buyer—
particularly through an official city letter or op-ed—crosses the line between governance andactivism.
This action also creates inequity in representation. Bozeman residents who fund cityoperations are not being represented when city time and credibility are used on behalf of a
private advocacy group. Citizens expect their elected officials to focus on core responsibilitieswithin city limits: infrastructure, water and sewer systems, fiscal management, and public
safety.
I urge the Commission to withdraw or vote against this proposal. Public trust depends on
respecting the limits of public authority.
Thank you for your consideration.
