Hi Juliene,
discussed the email response we recently got from MDT with the city's transportation engineer and the director. The
proposed MDT grading and drainage design doesn't have any room within the ROW to accommodate a shared use path.
Additionally, there is a significant grade difference between this property and the intersection with the on-ramp. The
existing conditions north of the on-ramp are also less than ideal for bikes and pedestrians. Ideally the shared use path
would need to be in MDT ROW and the interstate bridge needs improvements to better accommodate bikes and
pedestrians. Given the design constraints the city will drop the comment for the shared use path along the N 19th
frontage. The attached sidewalk installed with the MDT project is adequate for this project.
Keep in mind the city is still requiring a shared use path connection to the southeast pedestrian ramps at 19th and Valley
Center. We are also requiring a sidewalk connection to the northeast pedestrian ramps at 19th and Valley Center as you
have shown. You will need to work with MDT to install this connection since it's in MDT ROW.

For future reference the city has generally been requiring a 25-foot-wide trail corridor easement for shared use path
located outside the ROW and we have a standard template for the easement. For shared use path located in MDT ROW
there would need to be some sort of maintenance agreement for the facility. The city cannot grant easement within MDT
ROW, you would need to talk to MDT about how to accommodate maintenance. I believe the city has been working with
MDT on a city-wide agreement for these situations.
Thanks,
