COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 2755
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
BOZEMAN, MONTANA, ESTABLISHING THE NAME OF THE
GALLAGATOR LINEAR PARK, WHICH IS LOCATED ALONG THE
ABANDONED CH ICAGO, MI LWAUKEE, ST. PAUL AND PACI FIC
RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY EXTENDING FROM THE INTERSEC-
TION OF SOUTH CHURCH AVENUE AND EAST STORY STREET
TO THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH THIRD AVENUE AND KAGY
BOU LEV ARD.
WHEREAS, the Gallatin Valley Electric Railway began operation on Sep-
tember 23, 1909; and
WHEREAS, said railroad provided service between Three Forks and
Bozeman, via Salesville (which is now known as Gallatin Gateway); and
WHEREAS, in 1910 the railroad was purchased by the Chicago, Mil-
waukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, and the name was changed to the Gal-
latin Valley Railway Company; and
WHEREAS, service along said line included passenger service, which the
Milwaukee humorously dubbed liThe Gallagator"; and
WHEREAS, on April 29, 1978, the last train, operated by the Chicago,
Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, ran along said railroad bed; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman has purchased a portion of the aban~
doned Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad right-of-way extending
from the intersection of South Church Avenue and East Story Street to the inter-
section of South Third Avenue and Kagy Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the City has designated the subject property as a linear park;
and
WHEREAS, the Recreation Advisory Board has recommended that the park
be named in a manner reflecting its historic background.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City
of Bozeman, that the linear park located along the abandoned Chicago, Mil-
waukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad right-of-way extending from the inter-
section of South Church Avenue and East Story Street to the intersection of
South Third Avenue and Kagy Boulevard be designated as the "Gallagator lin-
ear Park".
