City Commission and Bozeman Police Department,
On many occasions in the past year or so we’ve experienced being woken up in themiddle of the night by racing or speeding vehicles on nearby streets, namely nearbystreets like Oak and Durston. Because of the design of these streets, with limitedintersection controls and stop signs, they are prime for speeding and drag racing.Even though we live close to a quarter mile from Oak Street, last night’s speeding bya motorcycle(s) caused us to be woken up in the middle of the night two differenttimes. This occurs on a nightly basis, and I can’t imagine that other folks living closerto these streets are not concerned with safety as well as noise pollution issues.
Motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists use these streets well into the night. Aspeeding motorcycle (or other vehicle) has limited ability to respond to these otherusers and puts all of them at risk. Add to this wildlife crossings along corridors like
South 19th Avenue and you have a recipe for disaster.
This appears to be a newer trend. We have lived in this neighborhood since 2003 andhave never experienced this level of racing or speeding. I believe, seeing the socialmedia posts about this on a weekly basis, that it is worth putting some resourcestowards this issue so that the public safety and peace are maintained.
Sincerely,
Candace Mastel
