Subject: Public Comment on Proposed Fowler Place Changes – Strong Opposition Dear City Commission, We are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed changes to Fowler Place, specifically the plan to extend the boulevard, relocate or remove existing trees, and convert thecurrent pedestrian path into a two-way commuter bike and car lane. We live directly adjacent to this trail and use it daily with our children, who walk to and fromHyalite Elementary School along this path. The proposed changes raise serious concerns for our family’s safety and quality of life. In particular: • The mature trees and nearby creek provide a critical sanctuary for local wildlife and a sense of natural beauty that makes this area special. Removing or relocating these trees wouldcause lasting ecological harm. • The current trail serves as a peaceful and safe space for families, children, and dogwalkers. Converting it into a two-way bike lane—especially one that permits e-bikes—would endanger pedestrians and diminish the trail’s original purpose. • There is already very limited vehicle traffic in this neighborhood, and the addition of a two-way bike lane feels unnecessary and out of scale with the community’s needs. • No other part of the city allows a two-way bike lane on a sidewalk—why begin here, in a residential area with children? We respectfully urge the Commission to reconsider this plan and preserve the unique natural character and safe pedestrian access that this trail currently offers. Sincerely,Hanna and Tyler Doil342 Christopher Way
