In regards to the Fowler Housing Project, we would like to say that we are opposed to the
project as it is currently proposed. It is showing very little regard or respect to the
homeowners on New Holland whose property would back up to the project. You are
asking them to have their privacy taken away but mostly you are asking them to allow
you to devalue their property by building this project.
We have lived in the Bozeman/Gallatin Valley since 1991. We have seen the changes,
both good and bad, that have occurred over the years. We have lived in Harvest Creek for
11 years. We have watched the rapid growth and all the issues that come along with that
growth. While growth is inevitable, that does not mean it should happen just because it
can. There needs to be some type of control in the building of all of the high density
projects b being built in Bozeman.
Building the Fowler Housing Project just because you can, is not a viable reason. With
the amount of high-density units being built, why is the city wanting to add to the
number??? At some point there will be a saturation of the market and then what
happens to the unoccupied units? Will they be allowed to sit empty and fall into
disrepair?? Will they be allowed to become run-down, squatter havens??
While I am very sympathetic to need for lower cost homes, there has to be other ways to
achieve this goal. Building more high-density units is not the answer!!!
If the Fowler Housing Project is to be pushed through by the city, please consider
reducing the number of units, enlarge the green space between the current properties
and the new units, create a larger buffer zone around the units to create a more
neighborhood atmosphere not just a bunch of buildings squeezed into a space.
Please also consider the sizes of the proposed units...an 11' width is preposterous! By
reducing the number of units in the project, larger units could be offered.
In closing again we ask you to firstly consider the existing property owners on New
Holland, they deserve privacy in their backyards and they deserve to keep the value of
their property. Secondly, reduce the number of units in the project.
Thank you,
Walter & Susan Francis
