Greetings Bozeman Economic Vitality Board, I write today about the proposed housing development between the new Fowler Ave and Harvest Creek. While your representatives made well-articulated and reasonable points about an affordable housing development, I feel a few points greatly miss the mark: 1) The number of units is far too dense for that parcel. This would be a detractor for the residents there, whose mere 150’ wide community would be sandwiched between a busy road (Fowler) and a fence (Harvest Creek). 2) The height of the 4-story units would block daylight in the majority of the community AND for many New Holland Dr. residents, as well as tower over all the other structures and trees in the area. This will negatively affect all the community’s residents AS WELL as many residents in Harvest Creek. This height transition is far too abrupt. 3) The number of proposed parking spots per unit(1.6) is inadequate. The average number of parking spots needed for a single-family home is MORE than 2. This will create a major challenge for these residents and put pressure on the streets and residents of Harvest Creek. Possible solutions: 1A)Work with Harvest Creek to promote Bozeman’s supposed support of green space by creating a park, with access from Fowler and New Holland. 1B) Find a more suitable lot (of which there are many) for this project. 2) Reduce the unit density to something that will TRULY allow a family to thrive there, with more open space and greenery. 3) Reduce the max height of the community, allowing more light into the development. 4) 2.5 parking spaces per unit. I appreciate your willingness to work with our community to find a reasonable option with which to move forward. Feel free to contact me for any follow-up. Thanks.
