Terry Quatraro 406 580 3681 5205 Eclipse Drive Bozeman Dear Mavor Cunningham and Commissioners, I wish to address the attempt to allocate more money to campaign against the voices of the neighbors and residents of the city of Bozeman in regards to the WARD initiative currentlyup for a vote. I believe not another cent of the tax payer's money should be used against them in the battle to squelch their voices. All voices are important and need to be heard and considered not justthose of the wealthy investors who can use their money to persuade the public and city Commissioners. The issue of affordable housing is a difficult one and has many facets to consider. As per thecity sponsored document being distributed to the public by the mayor and the city commission recently here are my comments: "City of Bozeman won't run out of water for 10 years " does that mean that at the currentunfettered growth we will run out of water in 2035? "Successful housing strategy " factors "costs of land, labor, lumber, and lending" what about leverage. The tool that is important for the people to use so that the negotiation is a levelplaying field for all involved, especially those who have strong voices and are most impacted by the City’s decisions but are excluded because they they lack the big bucks to turn yourattention . The city is swayed by those who can influence by using their money. The current growth of multi level complexes that are being built all over town and beyond are being given exceptions to what makes a balanced Livable community like available parkingand open space once required. Instead of declaring a bike rack as open space! Bozeman was once considered a city of trees and flowers. The commission is allowing developers with noconsequences to cut down hundreds of old growth trees to be supplanted with a boxy looking 4 to 8 story structure that leaves an ugly eyesore. Our community deserves better. The commission needs to stop using money to fight againstthe voices of its citizens and instead the money allocated should be used to work with all constituents in coming together to find a balanced solution to the problem of affordablehousing. I believe the best solutions are made when all those impacted have an equal voice in deciding what can work for a balanced sustainable community that allows our working families like teachers, fire fighters, and construction workers to establish a permanent place to live andthrive in our community. Bozeman should not be the place to house people temporarily without a chance to afford their own home that they can raise a family and establish equity in their own home.
