Bozeman City Comissioners,
I am writing you this evening after reading a story published on Facebook by one of your
employees and how she was mistreated upon the death of her unborn child.
First off I’d like to address your de-humanization of her child. Your comparison of her lossto that of a pet is deplorable. There is both biblical and scientific truths that human life
begins at conception, so take your pick of whichever appeals more to you. You shouldstrongly consider writing a formal apology for this troubling comparison.
It’s also apparent that your bereavement policy needs to be reviewed and revised. The loss
of a child whether born or unborn is one of the most difficult times in a person’s life. It’sextremely irresponsible for the city of Bozeman to expect work from someone in such
circumstances. In the case of Gabby, you’re putting your constituents lives at risk. If she’snot at her best during a crisis, people die, plain and simple. It’s pretty hard to be at your
best when you’re grieving the loss of a child.
To challenge the mental strength of a first responder is laughable, they put themselvesthrough some of the most difficult situations there is in order to serve others. If she’s telling
you she’s not okay and needs time-she’s not lying.
Finally just be a decent human. I understand you have a job to do and sometimes that canget in the way of being compassionate, but it feels like a little bit more could’ve been done
to accommodate Gabby in her tough time.
It’s never too late to do the right thing, I hope you take my email into consideration andfind a way to make it right with Gabby.
Sincerely,
Zack Winfield
