Bozeman Atwell Hotel Project Departure
To Whom it May Concern:
During the site plan submittal process it was brought to our attention that building facades longer than
150 feet require additional features to articulate the facades. It was the design team’s understanding of
the code that this articulation did not apply when facing side yards. The lot to the west is under the
same ownership as this lot and is not the front of the building. The lot to the east is a vacant lot under
similar zoning.
The building, as constructed, does have a vertical modular at least 10’ wide to break up the long span.
The indentation is only 5’ deep however. Planting, fenestration and change in colors occur at this recess
in the building. The floor plan layout is a universal layout provided by IHG that they would like to keep
the same as their other hotels. Adjusting the footprint would affect the interior room layout and the
mostly reviewed site if it were to change. We kindly ask for a small reduction in the recess from 6’ to 5’ if
this is not treated as a side yard.
The code section we ask for a departure from is Bozeman Municipal code 38.530.040.E
