Anne –
Thank you for sharing your comments. The concept you’ve seen is just that, a concept. We are
hoping to engage the community at large and the neighborhood in considering how we get
more affordable housing units for the city as a whole. It’s very early in the process, so there are
many parts of this project where we do not have the answers yet, but we promise to share our
thoughts on those details as the project moves forward.
I’m presenting on the project and next steps at a meeting hosted by the Harvest Creek HOA
tonight at 6 pm at the Bozeman Public Safety Center. This would be a great time to learn more
and ask any questions you might have, but there will be other opportunities moving forward.
Please feel free to call me if you want to discuss this directly.
Best,
David

Dear Mr. Fine,
As a Gallatin Valley native who left for a long time and then was fortunate enough to come back, I
want to start by saying that I am deeply concerned about the lack of truly affordable housing in
Bozeman and am very supportive of finding ways to build this. But the more I learn about the
proposed plans (though information has been quite limited) for the Fowler Housing Project, the
more I am convinced that Bozeman can do better than this.
My primary concerns are with the size of the project relative to the road infrastructure that
would serve as access points and limited parking availability. As the mother of small children
in Harvest Creek, I already have safety concerns from the traffic that speeds through our
neighborhood, and I worry that this would increase in a way that isn’t necessary with
thoughtful and transparent planning. I have secondary concerns about the size of the units
(11 feet wide in some cases). These concerns all boil down to the size of the development,
which could certainly be downard andjusted to address these concerns. I also want to
further understand the measures that would be taken to ensure that they truly will be
affordable.
I believe that the city and residents can work together to find dignified solutions to the
affordable housing crisis that don’t hamper the safety of existing neighbors, and I hope that
the city will provide responses to these concerns as a way of getting there.
