Dear Commissioners: The time is now to address the serious zoning issues with allowing fraternity and sororities houses in neighborhoods. Any new and/or relocating Fraternities and Sororities setting up shop in established neighborhoods causes considerable consternation among residents. And it’s avoidable if you zone for it in the UDC. Please don't allow Greek Houses in R-A and R-B in the new UDC, and if necessary adopt a City-initiated ZMA in order to change the Greek Way Avenue off Kagy Blvd, to R-C zoning. It’s the perfect location for Greek houses. While you are investigating how to regulate this use within the Unified Development Code, please go meet with MSU president, Brock Tessman, to see how the university could regulate Greek Houses and to require new and relocating Fraternities and Sororities to utilize Greek Way adjacent to the University in order to reduce conflict in established neighborhoods. The Town and Gown cooperation that you’d be creating is essential, and a new President means a new beginning. Please take the opportunity to advocate for tax paying residents and write zoning code that addresses the locations of Greek Houses. This is to prevent Greek houses from locating in residential neighborhoods which causes lots of problems for your already overwhelmed police force. Continuing to allow the type of conflict we've already experienced is very dysfunctional and divisive. It should be avoided. Thank you, Patty McGown
