I’m writing today as a concerned citizen and local resident regarding the recent
decision to make the pride flag the official flag of our city.
This change is sudden and without proper public input such a symbolic decision. As
someone who values the democratic process, I’m troubled that the community was
not invited into this conversation, especially with the importance of a symbol of our
community that includes heterosexual marriages, families, farmers, small business
owners, outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, and people of many different beliefsand cultural backgrounds.
We are united by much more than any one group and more input should have been
sought before making this decision.
To designate any symbol that does not represent the full community as the officialcity flag undermines unity rather than promoting it. I believe we deserve a flag that
reflects the heart of our entire town—not one that prioritizes symbolism tied to a
particular movement or group.
I strongly urge you to reconsider this action and, at the very least, allow space forcommunity discussion and a vote. This is too significant a decision to be made
without the voices of the people it affects most: the residents of our city.
Thank you for your time
Sincerely,
Amber Jupka
