Mangold - July 14 UDC work sessionFrom:Jane Mangold To:Bozeman Public Comment Subject:[EXTERNAL]July 14 UDC work session Date:Tuesday, July 15, 2025 8:48:14 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Dear Mayor Cunningham, Deputy Mayor Morrison, and Commissioners Madgic, Fischer, and Bode: I live on North Tracy Avenue and am part of the Centennial Park Neighborhood (CPN). I am a co-author on the CPN Proposal, but I’m writing as a resident of Bozeman and not inany formal capacity as a representative of the CPN. I was unable to attend the UDC work session on July 14, so I’m sharing some thoughts through this emailed public comment. I have three main thoughts to convey: First, I want to say thank you. After finishing my day of work and then preparing dinner, Iwent online to watch the video of the work session and lo and behold, the session was still in progress, more than five hours after it began. Your diligence and thoughtfulnessregarding zoning districts as part of the UDC update is obvious and much appreciated. I encourage you to continue with the same diligence and thoughtfulness as we see thisprocess through to the end. Second, I want to say how impressed I was by the inspiring and eloquent public comments shared by Bozeman residents. The public comment provided by LoganSchneider especially gave me pause for thought—that being his perspective of being a steward—not master—of his 120 year old home on South 3rd and that even if he didn’tlive in his home and neighborhood, he would still want it to be there because it is part of what makes Bozeman, Bozeman. It makes me wonder how our discussions anddecisions might be influenced if we think of ourselves as stewards, and not masters, of the history and future of this city. Finally, I was encouraged by the direction of your discussion during the last couple hoursof the work session. I heard you express that zoning should match what is currently on the ground. Regarding the area of Bozeman where I live, the CPN, our proposal honorsthis idea. I also heard you express that zoning should not be character-changing for a neighborhood. I would argue that this is particularly relevant within the NCOD. If theCPN were to be built out to what R4/RC zoning allows, it would be character-changing. Your discussion on July 14 seemed to take to heart the public comment provided not justduring the work session but throughout the UDC update process and I hope that will continue to be the case. Thank you again for all your service and hard work. Sincerely, Jane Mangold
