Dear City commission representatives, First, thank you for all your hard work on behalf of our city. We love living in Bozeman and I’m certain you aren’t thanked enough. We are grateful. The purpose for my email is to express my concern about making the LGBTQ flag the official city flag and raising it alongside the American flag. I am fully opposed to this idea. The American flag is the one flag that represents all of us. That should be sufficient. The LGBTQ flag does not represent everyone, though I realize that is the argument for it. That flag specifically represents the lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans/queer community alone. No one thinks of the straight community when they see that flag. I can’t understand why people will only feel seen if this flag is hung. This is a sad reality that their identity is so wrapped up in their sexuality. They are more than their sexuality and that shouldn’t be the most important thing to identity them…hanging this flag only communicates that this is the most important part of who they are. Don’t feed that lie. We aren’t hanging a flag for every race or religion in Bozeman and we shouldn’t hang such a controversial flag for sexuality. If you do this, you leave out a huge population in Bozeman. Please don’t be people pleasers. We are Americans…that’s our common bond. Just hang the American flag. I’m begging you. This is not virtuous…it only reflects the fear of man. Stick to the American flag and give this town a vision that all are welcome because we are all Americans…it’s not about sexuality, race, religion or gender. Please don’t make that appear to be the most important thing about this town. I urge you to lead this community well and keep it simple…keep the American flag, don’t complicate things. We can love those in the LGBTQ community without raising a flag over the city. I’m confident you could help the community understand this. Thank you Stacy Frazer Sent from my iPhone
