Dear Commissioners,
My name is Pat Todd and I appreciate the opportunity to provide public comment requesting
the commission to approve the Pride flag as an official city flag.
As a full-time resident and homeowner in Bozeman and someone who works for a localnonprofit, I care deeply about the community I live in. I believe in building a place where all
people feel safe, valued, and included. Oppressed and marginalized groups have historicallybeen excluded from full participation in public life, and without intentional acts of inclusion,
that exclusion often continues by default. Invisibility sends a powerful message—that certainpeople don’t belong. That’s why it’s essential for the City of Bozeman to fly the Pride flag.
This is not just a symbolic gesture; it is a clear and public statement that LGBTQ+ residentsare seen, valued, and welcome in their own community. Without such intentional visibility,
the default assumption remains one of exclusion, reinforcing harmful patterns of erasure andmarginalization.
Flying the Pride flag is a simple but meaningful step in building a city that is truly inclusive
for all. I plan to live and invest in this community for many years to come, and I appreciate theopportunity to share feedback with the Commission about the kind and welcoming city we can
continue to build together as Bozeman residents.
