City Council Members, It has been brought to my attention that Bozeman is considering adopting the “pride” flag as the official city flag. The legal, ethical, and practical ramifications of such a demonstrative and illicit action will carry devastating unintended consequences. Is that what you’re going for? We have observed frightening blowback in other cities across the country who have caved in servitude to this obnoxious ideology…propagated as if it was the majority, but statistically, are proven to be a paltry minority. As a Citizen in the Bozeman area for almost 30 years, I am stunned you are even considering such a fooling suggestion, designed to create division among the people. Each state and city flag is representative of it’s history and distinct symbols, which are meant to create unity and legitimate pride for the entire population. Flags are iconic symbols that indicate a place‘s true identity and values. City and State flags are often used during official ceremonies. They are displayed on government buildings and are meant to indicate a specific areas authority and sovereignty. Citizens always retain the right to practice and believe whatever ideology their conscience demands. However, attempts to politicize fringe ideology, that is created for the purpose of slapping that ideology in the face of anyone who sees our flag, is begging for economic and territorial conflict. Again, if this is what you’re going for, by all means, please proceed. The path of failed leadership is well paved before you. Choosing to walk down the same path other cities have taken, especially with the full knowledge of the upheaval and disruption to the peace of the community, creates doubt in the citizens of your true motives on every decision you make. Please fulfill your responsibility as being representative of The People and choose the path of civic duty and peace. Thank you Elizabeth Peterson
