I'm writing in to voice my support of the city of Bozeman adopting the pride flag as an official emblem. Choosing to be in relationships with others (of any kind) means making accommodationsbased on what someone else needs. The queer community in this case is asking for a small accommodation in order to feel that the city wants to maintain a relationship; to feel welcomed and included within our city, especiallyas our state legislature (and country as a whole) work to erase queer peoples' identities. We've all had moments in our lives where loved ones have asked us to accommodate them, however small the request. Sometimes it's something that never occurred to us, like"when you say this thing, it makes me feel small." Oftentimes these conversations stem from a need for reassurance: am I cared for, or loved? And when we can make a small, relativelyinconsequential change in order to make that clear, why wouldn't we? I went to the meeting last week, and I heard a lot of opposition rooted in wanting the city to focus on issues that affect "everyone". I disagree. I think the only way that we can truly makeeveryone in our community feel welcomed and included is by addressing what accommodations each group needs to feel welcome and supported. When we lead with love, we must be willing to accommodate the people in our lives, even β€”or especially β€” when it's not something that we personally need. If we want to say to the entire queer community of Bozeman, I value you as our community members. I see you, as myneighbor, as people who contribute to the health of this city, then I feel that allowing for the pride flag to continue to be displayed sends that message. Thank you for your time,Erin Corsi
