Dear City Commission,
My name is Brooke Dunnagan, and I’m a lifelong Bozeman resident. I was born here and havespent most of my life in this community. I currently live in central Bozeman, and I’m proud to
call this place home. Over the years, I’ve taken on many roles in this town—as a student, skicoach and kayak coach for youth programs, a musician, and as someone who cares deeply
about the well-being of the people who live here.
I’m writing to you today as a queer ally to voice my strong support for adopting the Prideflag as an official city flag.
Living in Bozeman has always felt meaningful to me because of the people. It’s not just the
beautiful landscape that makes this place special—it’s the welcoming nature of those who livehere. I truly believe Bozeman draws people in because of its friendliness and openness. For
me, staying rooted in this town has everything to do with how this community chooses toshow up for each other.
The Pride flag represents safety, inclusion, and belonging. When I see it displayed by the city,I feel seen, valued, and reassured that this is a place where people of all identities are
welcome. It signals that Bozeman is a community where we look out for one another andwhere everyone has a home.
Making the Pride flag an official city flag sends a powerful message to young people, families, elders, and newcomers alike: that Bozeman is committed to being a safe and affirming place
for all. It’s a small gesture with a big impact, especially at a time when LGBTQIA+ peopleacross the country—and right here in Montana—are being targeted by harmful legislation and
rhetoric.
I invite you to see this as an opportunity to stand with the people you represent—many of
whom are impacted by these attacks. Approving the Pride flag as an official city flag is notjust about symbolism. It’s about choosing to support a vision of Bozeman that is inclusive, compassionate, and forward-thinking.
I urge you to approve the Pride flag as an official city flag.
With respect and appreciation,Brooke Dunnagan
