I am writing with serious concerns about the discussion which occurred at the City Commission UDC work session, June 24. At this meeting, it is my understanding that all Commissioners agreed that it would be acceptable to allow unlimited numbers of units in the lowest density residential zoning districts, like Figgins and Allison Subdivisions. Having lived in the Figgins Addition for 44 years, I feel I have some valuable insights which differ from this decision. When purchasing our home in 1982, we chose a family neighborhood zoned single family homes. We thought we were secure in our investment in a family neighborhood and for awhile that was so. Over the years of living here, we have seen the "single family" designation erode due to the fact that multiple college students renting one home has been allowed. This has already had an impact on our family neighborhood. Things to consider: ----Safety is an issue....added density, added traffic, foot traffic on roads with no sidewalks, safety for children walking/riding bikes to and from Morning Star and Sacajawea Middle School are issues that need serious consideration. ----Why add in-fill to already established neighborhoods? In-fill and development are a given in Bozeman....however, they are non-intrusive when built in neighborhoods not already established. Please do not change the nature of established, zoned neighborhoods. ----Adding the allowance of unlimited numbers of units to neighborhoods such as Figgins and Allison, with our proximity to MSU, could be disastrous for those of us invested in our homes. This would make our established neighborhood a developers' delight and the residents' nightmare. Thank you for your time. Laurie Hickman 2610 Langohr Ave Figgins Subdivision
