Dear Bozeman Mayor, City Commissioners, and fellow community members, My name is Zack Waterman, and I am a resident of Bozeman. I am writing today toexpress my strong support for the City of Bozeman adopting the Pride flag as one of its official city flags. For me, this issue is deeply personal. Growing up as a closeted gay kid, I knew what it felt like to wish I could be something — or someone — different, just to feel safe, accepted, or simply seen. That’s a painful and quiet kind of isolation that too many LGBTQ+ youth still experience, even today. That’s why this visibility matters. Bozeman is a city that prides itself on inclusivity, diversity, and a commitment to the well-being of all its residents. By adopting the Pride flag as an official symbol, we affirm our shared values of acceptance, respect, and equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Pride flag is more than just a colorful symbol. It represents visibility for those who have historically been marginalized and silenced. It stands as a sign of safety andsolidarity. For many in our community, especially youth, it is a reminder that they are not alone and that they are valued members of this city. We have an opportunity here to make a powerful statement: that Bozeman is not only a beautiful place to live, but a place where everyone, regardless of gender identity orsexual orientation, is seen, welcomed and celebrated. This flag won’t solve every problem, but it’s a step. A visible, undeniable step toward a Bozeman that welcomes all of its residents — not in words alone, but in action and solidarity everyday of every year. Thank you for considering this important proposal. Sincerely, Zachary Waterman2242 Baxter Ln #12 Bozeman, MT 59718 zwaterman@gmail.com 208.515.6719
