Dear Bozeman City Council Members,
I am writing to express my strong support for the adoption and public display of the Pride Flagby the City of Bozeman.
This gesture would not only reflect our community’s values of inclusion and respect, but also
send a powerful message of love and support to our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, and familymembers.
Bozeman has long prided itself on being a welcoming, forward-thinking city, and I believe this
is an important opportunity to reaffirm that commitment. Our LGBTQ+ community memberscontribute in countless ways—as business owners, educators, healthcare providers, artists,
volunteers, and more. Their presence strengthens the fabric of our city and enhances therichness of our shared experiences.
This is also deeply personal for me. My brother is gay and married to a wonderful man. I have
seen firsthand both the joy of love freely expressed and the pain that comes from hate andexclusion. We have the opportunity to be on the right side of this—by standing with those who
have been marginalized and by publicly affirming that everyone is valued here.
Raising the Pride Flag is not about politics—it is about people. It’s about choosing kindnessover division, unity over silence, and love over fear. I urge you to take this simple but
meaningful step to show that Bozeman is a place where all are welcome and all are loved.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Tanya Smith
