What just happened? There was a community outcry about the UDC and so there
is a pause to reconsider it. The new proposal designated R2=RA as allowing a
duplex and an ADU in neighborhoods that were previously single family homes. As Jim Goetz said after his lawsuit, we can live with that. Now we are hearingthat Forward Montana and an architect want us to allow up to 12 units
everywhere?!@. That certainly will make it worthwhile to demolish any home
for the fantastic profits that 12 luxury units will offer. We all know none of thiswill be affordable. That argument only serves developers. City officials keepsaying they want residents to trust them and to be engaged. There has been a huge
outpouring of engagement from residents who do not want our neighborhoods
sacrificed for the luxury market. The market always determines the price! Why
have our voices been drownded out? Yes, most of us do want to preserve themulti-unit apartments in our neighborhoods but that does not extend to every lot
welcoming so much density. You can easily make exceptions for existing multi-
unit buildings...or allow for the same footprint and "form" for transforming an old
home into apartments. Why are we back at a UDC that set the whole pause inmotion? Mary Lou Osman
