City Commissioners, Please don’t let the anti-LGBTQ+ groups discourage you from talking about and acting on important issues like adopting the pride flag as an official flag of Bozeman. As a young queerperson who’s grown up in Bozeman, I have felt that the City Commission has done a good job navigating these issues and taking them seriously, and taking the pride flag discussion off theagenda for the July 8 meeting is disheartening. The pride flag is a simple symbol for people like us to let us know we are welcome, as not all places and people want us around. Having pride flags in schools and government buildings ismore important now than it ever has been given the current political climate, where many are trying to erase and silence us. Simply existing is not political, and displaying a flag to let usknow we are welcome in a world that has systemically silenced and overlooked us is not a political statement but a humane action of kindness to mend the deliberate exclusion we’vefaced historically and on a daily basis. Don’t shy away from taking action for a group of people whose existence is increasingly becoming politicized. Everyone deserves to feel welcome in Bozeman. Sincerely, Judah Seger
