I am a resident of Baxter Meadows West and oppose the rezoning as requested to the city by the developer. Their request is to get the zoning change to be able to build apartments and commercial spaces along with residential. I am ok with the residential building zones. I do not see why, at this time, Bozeman needs additional zoning to build more apartments. I believe the number of apartments along with the new inventory under construction appears to be satisfying our current needs. Example is the market now is offering perks to attract renters. Examples such as first 1-2 months free if a one-year lease is signed, and many other offers to consider out in our market. When you consider the future of Bozeman, I believe more housing being build should be the mission of the council. Appears that the council is willing to accept whatever a developer wishes to accomplish. I would like to see our council put the breaks on this project, deny the zoning request as it is currently applied for. Commit to a better vision for the future of Bozeman that is focused on building more homes and when the need to build apartments is present, have them built in existing zones where they already exist and use the land that is currently sitting there. My example would be to use the land that sits empty at the intersection of Baxter Ln and Davis, the SE quarter of open space next to the existing apartments in that area. The idea of holding steady on housing could look like the White Horse Development at the corner of Love Ln and Baxter. We need to protect the beauty of Bozeman! Respectfully Jerry Awe
