Dear Members of the City Commission, I’m writing as a resident of Bozeman to respectfully express my opposition to the proposed adoption of the pride flag as the official city flag. While I fully support the right of individuals to express their identities and for groups to berecognized and celebrated within our diverse community, I believe that the official city flag should represent all citizens equally and neutrally. A city flag is a unifying symbol, andadopting one that is closely associated with a specific group may unintentionally exclude others or politicize what should be a shared emblem of civic identity. A city flag should reflect the unique history, geography, and character of the community as awhole. There are many ways to show support for various groups and causes without replacing or redefining the flag meant to represent every resident.
