Dear Bozeman City Commission:
RE: Pride Flag as Official Bozeman City Flag
Thank you for your consideration of my public comment regarding to the current debate
around whether or not Bozeman should adopt the pride flag as the official city flag.
Whether a country, state or city flag, the purpose of the flag and its visual is to represent
EVERYONE who the flag is intended to represent - not a small group of individuals with a
narrower ideology, beliefs, attitudes, etc. Such a flag can be adopted by that group, but
should not be adopted by elected officials such as yourselves who must serve all of your
constituents. Since I assume a city flag would be flown outside government buildings, it must
therefore represent ALL of us - and create unity among us.
I don’t know who suggested that the Pride Flag be adopted as Bozeman’s official city flag, but
it would not represent
the majority of Bozeman citizens. I also wasn’t aware that cities need an official flag, nor what
the cost would be, or even the reasons behind it, but if the City Commission believes Bozeman
needs a city flag, why not have a “flag design contest” - I know the results would be a beautiful
flag that highlights the wonderful, all inclusive attributes of our city!
Please vote NO on adopting the Pride flag as Bozeman City’s flag.
Sincerely,
Susan
