The Bozeman city flag features a gold background with a central pale green
shape, resembling a sun, that has a dark green circle at its core. Within the
circle are symbols representing the city: an open book and three heads of
wheat. These symbols denote education, agriculture, and the city's
connection to the land. The gold color symbolizes Bozeman's rich heritage,
and the green represents the surrounding natural beauty. The flag was
adopted on April 27, 1966, after a design competition.
The current flag has a much richer meaning to all of us living in Bozeman.
Changing our 60 year old flag to By-pass a law, that would represent a
small minority of the community is very short sided and childish. I am
writing this in opposition of changing the flag and hope that the city council
would focus their energy on what matters most the majority of the
members in our community.
