Dear Chuck, Nick, and Mitch-
I recently learned of MDOTs plan to remove the only remaining mature trees near the
intersection of N.7th and W. Peach.
I understand the situation is complex, but if Bozeman is serious about its urban forest and treesas a valuable natural resource, it will object to this environmental degradation and request a
redesign that will incorporate the existing trees through collaboration with the City. Thiscould be done with a creative redesign of the new sidewalk or reevaluation of the need for a
right hand turn lane, or a redesign of the width of all lanes.
Car drivers should not be the only consideration of this particular intersection. It's animportant school route and the mature trees are important to bikers and walkers- providing
some of the only shade for several blocks to the west. Removing them will only add to theheat island effect already brewing in the N.7th corridor.
On behalf of the residents, City departments, and environmental groups that want to maintain
and improve the urban forest, please work quickly with MDOT to prevent the loss of thesetrees.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
