In an effort to mitigate spillage from on site diesel storage the following procedures will be taken to not
only protect the integrity of the storage of materials but also the possibility of spills.
1. The diesel storage tank will be double wall construction. The outer wall acts as a secondary
containment system, preventing diesel from escaping into the environment if the inner tank
leaks. The outer wall protects the inner tank from external corrosion, weather conditions, and
mechanical damage. The double wall tank helps meet EPA Spill Prevention, Control, and
Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements, reducing the risk of environmental contamination.
2. Installation of an emergency shut off 25-100’ from the tank.
3. Bollards will be installed 3’ from the tank to protect the tank from mechanical damage. Bollards
shall be installed to meet the following requirement.
a. Constructed of steel not less than 4 inches in diameter and concrete filled.
b. Spaced not more than 4’ between posts on center.
c. Set not less than 3 feet deep in a concrete footing of not less than 15 inches diameter.
d. Set with top of the posts not less than 3 feet above ground.
e. Located not less than 3 feet from the protected object.
4. Drip pan installation under hoses and fittings to collect and contain and drips or spills from hoses
and fittings connected to the tanks.
5. Location of Tank is placed, such that it is away from stormwater collection locations on the site
as well as
6. SPCC plan will be in place in accordance with EPA Regulations (40 CFR 112)
