This Noxious Weed Management and Revegetation Plan (“Plan”) is a binding agreement between the Gallatin
County Weed District (“District”) and the Landowner. The Plan applies to the project and entire property
identified above. The Plan is effective upon approval by the District Board (“Board”) for 3 years from the date
of approval, or until the property’s ownership changes, or until a new Plan is entered.
By entering this Plan, the Landowner agrees that the Board or its Representatives shall have the right to revise
this Plan as necessary to effectuate the purposes of the Gallatin County Noxious Weed Management Plan or
Montana County Weed Act. The Landowner agrees that the Board or its Representatives may inspect the
property prior to granting approval of the Plan and, if approved, may perform such reasonable inspections as
necessary to determine compliance with this Plan.
By entering this Plan, the Landowner recognizes that noxious weeds exist on the property, and that failure to
abide by the terms of this Plan is a violation of the Montana County Weed Act. The Landowner waives any
statutory requirement for the District to inspect the land, and the District may enforce the violation upon giving
10 day’s notice to comply with the Plan.
Prior to final plat approval of any phase of the subdivision, the Landowner shall comply with all requirements of
the approved Plan. All areas of the property shall be, prior to final plat approval, sufficiently controlled for
noxious weeds and sufficiently revegetated, as determined by the District. In addition, the Landowner shall
provide documentation of annual weed control and all revegetation work as required by the District to
demonstrate that the Plan has been sufficiently implemented (see page 4 for a list of required documentation).
The Landowner recognizes that the approval of any requests for extensions or of final plats may be denied or
delayed if noxious weeds have not been properly controlled.
The Landowner agrees that this Plan is supported by good valid consideration and this Plan constitutes a
binding contract and may be enforced as such.

Site Description:
The proposed 25.34 acre Meadow Bridge Subdivision is located just North West of the 19th
Avenue &Blackwood intersection south of Bozeman.Currently it consists of pasture land and
has a small stream corridor running from South to North through it.
Noxious and Unwanted Weed Inventory and Recommended Control
Measures:
There were four noxious weed species surveyed and mapped on the property;Canada Thistle,
Spotted Knapweed,Hoary Alyssum and Houndstounge. The Canada Thistle was surveyed along
both sides of the small stream in the wetland areas.Spotted knapweed was found relatively
widespread on the western half of the site with the heaviest infestations being along the access
road.Hoary Alyssum was the most prevalent noxious weed on the property. It is scattered in both
large and small patches across the entire development site. There were several small patches of
Houndstongue surveyed on the east side of the site. The most abundant noxious weeds were the
Hoary Alyssum,Canada Thistle and Spotted Knapweed. The Canada Thistle control will require
some thought and caution as most of it sits in a riparian /wetland area.Care will have to be taken
to not use herbicides that have transport risk in and around water.
Lastly there was a good amount of Kochia found to be present;apprx 2 acres .While it is not a
listed noxious weed we do strongly encourage its control during the development process. As
excavation happens there will likely be more kochia that germinates.Controlling it not only
reduces its spread but also mitigates fire risks as well as helps keep the worksite free of weed
debris.
Noxoius Weed Species Present:
Priority 1A:None present
Priority 1B:None present
Priority 2A:None present
Priority 2B:
●Hoary Alyssum
●Spotted Knapweed
●Canada Thistle
●Houndstounge
Priority 3:None present
Priority 4:None present
3-year control plan:
(A).Yearly herbicide application recommended between May 15 to June 15th as well as a second
application made in late September or October after a hard frost..Weed populations are dense
enough,it is recommended the applicator broadcast spray the general areas that the weeds are
present in.For the 2nd and 3rd year as weed control and development take place, the applicator
may adopt more of a selective spot spraying method.Herbicide applications within the wetland
areas should be done with herbicides that have no ground transport risk or risk around and near
water.Additionally, hand spraying (backpack or handgun)is recommended along the banks of
the creek.
(B).As development progresses,mid-summer mowing to prevent seed head production between
herbicide applications may be beneficial in areas that have been seeded, when grass is too young
to be sprayed with a herbicide.Mowing is not a requirement if herbicide application is taking
place.Rather an alternative in areas where herbicides cannot be applied or as stated when newly
planted grass is too young to be sprayed.
*Cheatgrass:It is possible there will be some germination of cheatgrass during development.
Mowing is a good option for cheatgrass control.Being that cheatgrass is a winter annual it can be
successfully controlled by removing the seed head before it is fully developed.A midsummer
mowing and another late summer mow would be sufficient to manage the cheatgrass and
mitigate its spread while development is taking place.
(B).During excavation and construction it is expected that where soil is disturbed there will be
an emergence of weeds.Often excavated topsoil and fill dirt piles are sold and moved around the
county. Therefore, dirt piles should be sprayed and only with Roundup or a herbicide that has no
residual. This is to be done so as the dirt will not carry any of said residual in the soil in case the
dirt was to be used in a garden or any similar application.
Estimated 3 Year Cost for Weed Management:
Year 1:
Estimate total =$3,160.00
Herbicide application in spring and fall.
-Spray for noxious and unwanted weeds in all applicable areas –Estimate 15 acres
sprayed in spring/early summer and 5 to be sprayed in the fall.
-Spring:+/-15 Acres x $158/acre =$2,370.00
-Fall:+/-5-Acres x $158/acre =$790.00
-Mowing of cheatgrass &newly seeded areas –twice/year =NA for year one.
Year 2:
Estimate total =$5,125.00
Herbicide application in spring and fall.Secondly, mow cheatgrass and newly seeded areas twice
per summer if applicable.
-Spot spray for noxious and unwanted weeds –Estimate 15 acres sprayed in the
spring/early summer and 8-10 acres sprayed in the fall.
-Spring:+/-15 Acres x $165/acre =$2,475.00
-Fall:+/-10 Acres x $165/acre =$1,650.00
-Mowing of cheatgrass &newly seeded areas –twice/year =$1000
Year 3:
Estimate total $3,250.00
Herbicide application in spring and fall.Secondly, mow cheatgrass and newly seeded areas twice
per summer.
-Spot spray for noxious and unwanted weeds –Estimate 5 acres sprayed in the spring/
early summer and 5 acres sprayed in the fall.
-Spring -5 acres x $175/acre =$875
-Fall –5 Acres x $175/acre =$875
-Mowing of cheatgrass &newly seeded areas $1,500
Herbicide recommendations and Application Rates:
Field and Pasture grass areas:
Escort –1.5 OZ/acre
Rifle D (or 24D with Dicamba equivalent)–1-2 pint/acre (when temps are cool,if over 80
degrees use 24D Amine)
*Aquatic 24D (in place of rifle d in wetland areas)-2-4 pt /acre
Non Ionic Surfactant –1 qt/100 gallons of water
Starine Ultra –4-5OZ/acre (optional but would help with kochia control)
Dirt Pile/Bare Ground :
Glyphosate –2 qt/acre
Non Ionic Surfactant –1 qt /100 gallons of water
Revegetation of Disturbed Land:
During this project there will be disturbance of land for foundations, roads, parks and other
things.Revegetation will take place in the areas that will not be covered by structures, parking
lots or roads. As soon as disturbed areas are no longer needed for construction purposes, they
should be re-seeded with a drill seeder, hydro seeder or no till drill as soon as possible with the
ideal times being spring (asap after snow melt)and in the fall (Sept.15 through Nov.as weather
permits). However, for areas that have irrigation such as turf grass, timing is not as important
being that the area is irrigated.
Once disturbed areas are seeded, weed management in those areas must be navigated correctly.
Care must be taken to not spray weeds too early when the new grass is still establishing. If
sprayed too early establishing grass will be damaged and there is the possibility re-seeding would
be needed.Generally,it is safe to spray roughly 45 days after germination in a pasture setting
and 20 days in an irrigated turf area.Mowing is an option, but care must be taken not to mow
when the ground is wet.The mower tires could tear up ground thus tearing up the establishing
seedlings.
