Memorandum
REPORT TO:City Commission
FROM:Chuck Winn, City Manager
SUBJECT:City Commission and Director Team Workshop
MEETING DATE:June 13, 2025
AGENDA ITEM TYPE:Administration
RECOMMENDATION:Continue to deepen collaboration and shared understanding.
STRATEGIC PLAN:1.1 Outreach: Continue to strengthen and innovate in how we deliver
information to the community and our partners.
BACKGROUND:Purpose:
The City Commission and City Department Directors met on April 24, 2025,
to strengthen working relationships, improve communication, and align on
short- and long-term goals. The meeting was productive, and it was decided
we should meet again to focus on Commission Priorities. This workshop is
structured for open, informal discussion outside the formal setting of a
regular Commission meeting. No formal actions will be taken. This is an
opportunity for Commissioners and staff to deepen collaboration and ensure
a shared understanding of the City's priorities, challenges, and future
direction, all in support of more effective and transparent governance.
Objectives:
• Deepen relationships between City Commission and Director Team
• Ensure Alignment of Short and Long-Term Goals
• Collaborative conversation on progress of City Commission Priorities
• Rich and respectful conversation: book club vs. book report
Commission Priorities:
• Update on progress of each Priority
• What, if anything, has changed for the Commission or Community since
they were adopted?
• Should the Priorities be modified or re-ordered
Challenges we face (If time allows):
• Providing government services given state-imposed challenges
• Managing growth in a rapidly changing community – Keeping Bozeman,
Bozeman
• Knowing our Community – Who is the Community and how do we react
to different interests?
