Description
Regarding the recent vandalism by gra iti artists (I use that term loosely as it was not what I would call art), I
wonder if there is a way to designate an area for folks to practice their cra . Providing a chalkboard for people
to express themselves in public restrooms helps keep the writing o the walls and stalls. I live near Story Mill
Park and o en use the trails. When passing under the highway overpass on the trail to town, I am frequently
impressed by the artist's work despite being very much against vandalism, especially gra iti. O ering this
"canvas" and using it to promote respectful gra iti art (rated PG, not on others' property, and clean up your
mess)may help to spread the word and direct the o enders to a place where they can freely express
themselves. We could even have an event or two and judge the best art for fabulous prizes. One of the
annoyances is the cans and trash le behind, so you could also educate about that. I pick them up frequently.
The walls were recently painted, and a fresh canvas was created that immediately got tagged. If you can't beat
'em, join 'em? Thanks for all you do, and if I can help with this initiative, I would be happy to volunteer some

time. In the end, it is likely the latest example in town is not someone who can be swayed not to be a derelict,
but it might be a great form of education and show that the city is doing its best to address it.
