Summary of reasons why it's important to keep tree protections/Environment in the UDC update: 1. The community voted for Environment topics to be included in the UDC Update during Phase 1 of the engagement to gain better environmental protections. 2. There are over 70 code references to trees in the UDC (aka Chapter 38 of the municipal code) that should be looked at and updated. Planning staff talk about them being weak, or non-existent. 3. Tree protections belong in the UDC Update (Chapter 38) because plans alone are not enforceable codes. 4. Environment was included in Phase 2 engagement meetings and specific codes were even included in the take home Environment - UDC Chat Tool Kits. These code sections included: Park and Recreation Requirements, Landscaping (where many tree/urban forest codes live), and Watercourse setbacks.
