There are additional, more concerning issues I see with the proposed development.
The proposed project includes housing for extremely low income. I don't oppose low
income housing as it's much needed for our expanding community. I do oppose low
income housing at the proposed location because there aren't businesses, public
transportation, safe and complete pedestrian and biking infrastructure, to support the
low income population. It's great if low-income people have affordable housing
options but did you consider the lack of such services to support them? There'snothing within walking distance - no grocery store or gas station. What happens when
we add low income families to a corner pocket of Bozeman without even an
elementary school to educate the children who live there? Please don't tell me that
First Student can support bussing an increase of students from that area to Hyalite orMorning Star schools. We've struggled for years with reliable bus transportation to
and from school as it is. And the buses won't drive on many of the roads in our
subdivision because of the lack of timely snow plowing to create safe roadways for
them to travel on. Low income housing options should be close to schools andservices so they may thrive, regardless of having access to private transportation.
Additionally, the road doesn't get plowed quickly after snow storms and with cars
parked on both sides of the road, it's often wide enough for one vehicle to pass at atime - even during the summer.
City Commissioners, I realize you all have a difficult job in building a community that
sustains all who wish to live here. Please consider rejecting this proposed project asthere's insufficient services to support the residence who will live there. I would like to
see the City Commission explore other, lower density options for the area, only after
some fundamental issues are taken care of first, such as bike lanes and services to
support the high density housing in Bull Run.
