You don't often get email from caseybelleone@yahoo.com. Learn why this is important
Hello Bozeman City Commission and Blue Line Development,
I'm writing as a neighbor on the South 29th block of Meadow Creek Subdivision to let
you know that I strongly oppose the proposed development project for Rocky
Mountain Flats. Selfishly I can say I don't want the increased traffic on my street that
will impact our beautiful, peaceful neighborhood, increase noise and congestion,
create hazards for pedestrians, and simply lower the quality of neighborhood that
we've loved for over 15 years. The Bull Run subdivision to the West of us already willadd to the congestion and unsafe conditions but as those housing units aren't
occupied yet, we won't know the full impact for some time. It's irresponsible to add yet
another high density subdivision in such close proximity without knowing the impacts
of those that are still being built (Bull Run isn't the only one, we have plenty of
unoccupied high density housing to the East of us off of Graf and 19th).
There are additional, more concerning issues I see with the proposed development.
The proposed project includes housing for extremely low income. I don't oppose low
income housing as it's much needed for our expanding community. I do oppose low
income housing at the proposed location because there aren't businesses, public
transportation, safe and complete pedestrian and biking infrastructure, to support the
low income population. It's great if low-income people have affordable housingoptions but did you consider the lack of such services to support them? There's
nothing within walking distance - no grocery store or gas station. What happens when
we add low income families to a corner pocket of Bozeman without even an
elementary school to educate the children who live there? Please don't tell me thatFirst Student can support bussing an increase of students from that area to Hyalite or
Morning Star schools. We've struggled for years with reliable bus transportation to
and from school as it is. And the buses won't drive on many of the roads in our
subdivision because of the lack of timely snow plowing to create safe roadways forthem to travel on. Low income housing options should be close to schools and
services so they may thrive, regardless of having access to private transportation.
As a neighbor on South 29th Ave (one-way heading North), I strongly oppose thisdevelopment project. My street in particular will be directly impacted because traffic
will flow from Meah to 29th as an alternate to the Meah to 27th route. Additionally,
has anyone reading this ever driven Meah? There's a large dip in the road at the 28th
and Meah intersection which will be sure to cause issues. Additionally, the roaddoesn't get plowed quickly after snow storms and with cars parked on both sides of
the road, it's often wide enough for one vehicle to pass at a time - even during the
summer.
City Commissioners, I realize you all have a difficult job in building a community that
sustains all who wish to live here. Please consider rejecting this proposed project as
there's insufficient services to support the residence who will live there. I would like to
see the City Commission explore other, lower density options for the area, only aftersome fundamental issues are taken care of first, such as bike lanes and services to
support the high density housing in Bull Run.
Thank you for your consideration. Please do the right thing and reject the proposeddevelopment.
