Re: Support for Proposed Boutique Hotel on Mendenhall Street
Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed boutique hotel
project slated for the lot behind Open Range on Mendenhall Street,
adjacent to Bozeman Creek. As a Bozeman resident who cares deeply
about the thoughtful development and vibrancy of our downtown, I believe
this project represents a valuable and timely investment in the city’s
continued growth and appeal.
The transformation of what is currently an underutilized parking lot into a
luxury-focused, architecturally mindful hotel is precisely the kind of
enhancement downtown Bozeman needs. This project not only activates a
key parcel of land along the creek but also contributes to the pedestrian
experience, fosters tourism, and increases options for visitors who are
seeking high-end, locally curated lodging experiences.
Bozeman has long prided itself on being a world-class destination with a
rich cultural and natural heritage. Projects like this boutique hotel align
with our city’s trajectory, offering additional hospitality choices that reflect
the sophistication of our growing community. Increased competition in the
hospitality sector also encourages excellence and innovation, ultimately
benefiting both locals and travelers.
I understand that some residents have expressed concerns about parking
and density. However, I am confident that with careful planning and
collaboration, these challenges can be addressed constructively. The long-
term benefits of this project — including economic stimulation,
beautification of the creek corridor, and enrichment of the downtown
ecosystem — far outweigh the temporary inconveniences.
I encourage the City Commission to view this development as a forward-
looking opportunity to enhance Bozeman’s urban fabric while honoring the
values of design, vitality, and economic sustainability.
Thank you for considering my perspective, and for your ongoing service to
our community.
Sincerely,
David Perlstein
