Mayor and City Commissioners,
In my opinion, Bozeman has exercised far too little attention on maintaining trees and other
greenery in the city, and requiring setbacks from the street that incorporate greenery in areas of
new development. I’ve read the update document from the Bozeman Tree Coalition. I support
coalition’s suggestions to preserve and enhance the city's unique natural beauty and
environment.
I support including the following in the UDC: specific conservation efforts to protect existing
trees, promote diversity of vegetation throughout the city, enhance the city’s aesthetic
characteristics, and promote watershed health.
I support development of a Tree Protection Ordinance with a goal to expand and strengthen the
existing urban forest, to add structure to the Plan Review process and guide the city’s
Community Development Department and Forestry Division.
I live in a HOA in the city that has been fully built out over the last 12-15 years. Although the
trees, bushes, grasses, and vegetation were included in each landscape design, It has taken
years, especially for tree maturation to begin to significantly add to the aesthetic quality of the
neighborhood. The differences between our neighborhood and neighborhoods containing
mature trees and other vegetation is remarkable and a reminder of the value of preserving the
aesthetic qualities of mature trees and other vegetation, including a sense of calmness, slower
pace, and noise reduction.
I urge you to include suggestions of the BTC in the updated UDC.
Thank you,
Patti
