Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioners, and Community Development Department,
I'm writing today to express my support for the Bon Ton neighborhood's Rezoning Proposal.
Having more consistent zoning across the entire historic district will allow for moreappropriate infill development in keeping with the character of this part of our City. We
(Bozeman) owe it to our community to preserve our historic neighborhoods that defines whatour community is proud of. Buildings that do not have historic character or that are in such
poor condition that have no choice but to be demo-ed due to the substantial deferredmaintenance should be the structures/parcels that should be considered for revamp / new
construction. And support a structure that is uninhabitable could have a higher and better useis how we should look at the rezoning. Making such a massive change on a whole could have
detrimental effects to our community that will provide rifts, lawsuits, uproar, where change isdifficult. What kind of change is coming ~will it bring in mass volumes of developers that are
unlikely to support development where it is already difficult for a young family to affordhomeownership opportunities downtown? I live on S 3rd in a historic home and I want to
highlight what development will do to our neighborhoods, will it be safe for children to play, will it create community or only further cause rift, will the change be creating more
positive/than negative.
The residents spent hundreds of hours organizing and drafting this proposal and that should behonored in the UDC update.
Thank you,
Marisa Owen
