Twenty-two years ago I bought a house on the corner of Curtiss and Grand.
The house built in 1888, was considered a treasure and now is thought of
as a “historic home". After a 3 year renovation, lead by the Prugh and
Lenon architectural firm, the house was completed. Much pain staking
work was driven by the respect for the history of the house and the
sensitivity to the neighborhood. City guidelines were followed and
landscaping installed. Everything was in keeping with historical
preservation and city guidelines. A preservation plaque was presented to
me by the city and it’s then preservation officer Derrick Strahn.
This area of town is the oldest part of Bozeman. Many other houses in the
area (now, asking for Down Zoning) are of the same vintage and have been
lovingly taken care of by the new residents. The thought of multi unit
apartments with black exteriors and 2 cars per unit does not fit into this
neighborhood.
This neighborhood is historic Bozeman and should be adopted into the
BonTon Historic District. Don’t be a member of the commission that doesn’t
respect Bozeman’s past and for ever changes its future and character.
