Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioners, and Community Development Department,
I have read the Centennial Park Neighborhood Conservation in Action – resident led proposal. I
frequently travel in the Centennial Park Neighborhood and nearby neighborhoods. I appreciate
its diversity of comparatively affordable housing set back from the street, mature trees and
shrubs, flower and vegetable gardens, that invite human activity and build a sense of
community and neighborhood. These are qualities that have contributed to the attractiveness
and quality of living in Bozeman.
I support the request of the Centennial Park Neighborhood that is currently zoned as R-4 to
become zoned as R-A rather than R-C as proposed in the updated version of the Unified
Development Code (UDC). Options exist to increase the density of architecture this
neighborhood with significantly increasing height over the current mix of structures. Increasing
height does not result in increased affordability as note by many newly constructed multistory
buildings in Bozeman. I urge you to respect the diligence of the work of these residents, the
evidence, rationale, and data they presented, and to grant their request.
I urge the commission to support the request of the Centennial Park Neighborhood to be zonedR-A in the UDC update.
Thank you,
Patti Steinmuller
